Bob Bowles
MBIYC Commodore 1993-1994
Taken from the
1997-1998 MBIYC Yearbook
Robert J. Bowles was born
and raised in Rocky River, Ohio. He graduated from high school in 1956 and had
the good fortune of playing on one of River's undefeated and untied football
teams - "rah-rah"!
Bob's father designed and
built a twelve foot flat- bottomed boat with a keel that they would take our
fishing even in a northeast blow because his dad wanted to show everyone how
seaworthy it was - "his first introduction to boating".
In 1961, after four years
in the Air Force, Bob started a fruit and vegetable stand at his parent's flower
shop in Rocky River. In May 1963, he was offered a job with the Cleveland Plant
and Flower Company - "still happily employed". (At the time of this writing.
I believe he is now retired to Florida - Ed.)
Bob has five children and
now six grandchildren. He met Beverly and together they bought a house on Middle
Bass Island. Bev named it "Peleeview". They were married in 1990 at the Island's
town hall and have enjoyed their lifestyle and all the new friends ever since.
George Weisenbach had a
dream of forming a yacht club on the Island, and he realized his dream in 1990.
George became the first Commodore and Bob was the first Vice Commodore. Two
years later he became Commodore, with Beverly as Secretary and his sister as
Treasurer (he couldn't find a position for Dad!).
Bob and Beverly also own
and operate Pitt & Whitney Company, a custom framing business including pictures
and mirrors; Bev will be handling nautical gifts.
