  • Updates from the Commodore's Desk

Thanks to all that attended and helped with the picnic.  It was a great success with the help of Larry Palmer, Bill Wichman, Bill Markey the main chefs.  The Prime Rib was excellent. With the baked potatoes and sweet corn, plus all the wonderful side dishes it was a great day. Special thanks goes out Larry Ohler for taking on this big event.

The weather was great and after the Ground Breaking ceremony several members hit the water with their inflatables and headed for schoolhouse bay.  It was hot and all had a good time.

The beginning of a new milestone was the Ground Breaking Ceremony held at 3:00 PM.

Past Commodores Larry Ohler, John Wierzchowski, Scot Forward, Mike Stewart, Lew Johnson and the founding Past Commodore George Weisenbach were all present along with the present Staff and Board of Directors.  All present charter members were introduced.  The present building committee was also introduced.  This is a great time for MBIYC and a big step forward to the future of the club.

The weather turned out great for our first cruise out of the season.  We had 13 boats and all had a good time.  Pat Root won the guess what’s in the jar contest (29 out of 30) items.  Sharon Weisenbach won the scavenger hunt with all the items.  Fleet captain Barb Uland had mixed fruit bowls, pastries and juice for everybody on Sunday morning.

The next cruise out is Christmas in July at the Huron Boat Basin, July 23-25.  Bring the inflatables; we’re having a poker run.

NEXT EVENT:  July 3, 2010.  General Meeting at 12 noon, Dinner at 1:00 PM.

GROUND BREAKING CEREMONY AT 3:00 PM

Come and enjoy the weekend.

MENU:  PRIME RIB, SWEET CORN & BAKED POTATO.  $10 per person
              Please bring a side dish

The weather tuned out great and the docks were full for the Memorial Day Picnic.  We had 151 paid dinners.  What a great turn out for Memorial Day.  Many thanks go out to all that helped set and tear down.  Special thanks go out to Jack and Claudette Pesti for chairing the event. Also special thanks to Larry Uland and Brad Bankowski for the great job of grilling.  The side dishes were wonderful as usual. Thanks to everyone for all your support in this time of transition to the new MBIYC.

The ships store had a lot of action, thanks to all that keep supporting the ships store.

The next major event is coming soon.  I’m still looking for someone to chair this very important event.  If you signed up to help on the 4th of July and would like to be a part of taking on the event, please let me know soon.  We have a great group of members with a lot of expertise and helping to support your club would be greatly appreciated.

Your board of directors and building committee are working very hard to get the building started as soon as possible.

Come and visit your club often and enjoy the view.  Make sure to call Butch at VHF 69 or call 419-341-1576 for dockage assignment.

Thank you to all that helped open the club on May 1st.  The sky cleared and the sun was a warm welcome to all.

The work party was busy cleaning brush by the beach while others were setting the life rings and fire extinguishers.  Walkways were brought back and placed by the storage sheds. Picnic tables were cleaned and set while PC Larry Ohler cooked up his famous milk can stew.

It was nice to see everybody again along with some new faces showing up to help get the club ready for another season.

Memorial Day is just around the corner, so plan on attending the picnic.  Jack and Claudette Pesti will be chairing the event.  If you signed up to work, Jack or Claudette will be getting in touch with you.  This is a new undertaking for them and your help will greatly be appreciated.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on the 29th of May

Greetings to all, SPRING has sprung.  Time to get the boats ready for the summer.

We are planning on having the electric on and docks ready by the 1st of April.  If the weather cooperates it should be a great spring and things will be happening at MBIYC.

The spring work party is planned for May 1st.  PC Larry Ohler volunteered to make his famous milk can stew for that event. If you volunteered to help with this work party we’ll see you on May 1st.

I still need a volunteer to take on the Memorial Day gathering.  If you signed up for that event why not be the organizer.  We need your help to make your club the best it can be.

We’ll have a newsletter out soon, watch the mail box for the latest up dates and visit www.mbiyc.com often to keep up on what’s going on.

LandCruise 2010: WOW, what a great event.  Thanks to all that attended; the dinner by John Bennet at the Second Street Café was superb and music by the World Famous Traveling Lounge Lizards was great and you made it a fun filled evening.  Thanks again for all who helped set-up and teardown.

New items in the ships store kept the shopping going all night with a lot of sales.  Thanks for supporting your ships store.

The next event will be THINK SPRING and launch.  The club opening work party will be on Saturday, May 1, 2010.

We still need HELP.  With the 3 major events coming up, Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day it would be a great help if someone would step up and chair one of these events.  You can always get help and info from past chairman. I’ll be contacting members that signed up on the survey to help with the events.

The Fleet Captain has asked for help with the cruise outs.  Contact Barb Uland at lbuland@msn.com

  • Updates from the Commodore's Desk

We have a building plan.  The building committee met on January 13th and finalized a building plan and elevation level. The plan has been sent to the State for final evaluation.

Contractors are being asked for cost and bids.  We’re getting closer to starting construction this spring and a drawn up version will be ready for the Land Cruise.  We still have a long way to go for completion, but a very important step has taken place.

Weather permitting; the electric will be turned on April 1st.  The Club opening work party will take place on May 1st.

If you haven’t signed up for the Land Cruise , now is the time.  Download the info and please mail it in now.

Membership matters, dues are due now.  Remember, it’s your club and the more input and help you give the better the club will be.  If you need to get your work hours in, now is a great time with the Land Cruise set up and tear down. Contact entertainment@mbiyc for more info.

This revision was approved by the Board of Directors on 12/10/2009 and goes into effect immediately.
    Summary of changes:
    • Based Dock Holders are now limited to a total of 18 (eighteen) as any given time.
    • The time Dock Holders are required to notify the dockmaster of their intent to use their dock on the Fridays, Saturdays or Holidays has been changed to 12:00 PM (noon).

  • Updates from the Commodore's Desk added.
On Saturday, November 7, 2009 the docks were bubbled. It was a long day with special thanks to Bubbling Specialist Dick Sisson (Emerald) and friend Jim Dale for their installation of the system.  This alone saved the club thousands of dollars. Thank you to Judy Sisson for the great lunch.  Just another example what members can do to help the club move on to the next step of completion of the new MBIYC.

On Saturday, November 14, 2009 the annual all day meeting of the BOD took place at the Commodore Perry Motel in Port Clinton.  Again thanks to the Board of Directors for a great job with the 2010 budget being approved and the hiring of Ellis Architects, Inc. and Reitz Engineering for site plan and structure design of the new building. The building committee will be working with the two firms with additional information to follow.

    Yours in Boating,
    Commodore Gil Root

    • A member may now be aboard any appropriately sized boat, regardless of ownership and still use Club dock. Also, members may come to Club with non-members on their boats and use the Club docks and facilities providing they remain with the non-members at all times.

    • The requirement to renew your desire on the Dock Waiting List annually has been dropped. Once you're on the list you stay there until offered a dock or you request to be taken off the list.

    • The 5-year sharing member requirement has been removed. All sharing members have been so at least 5 years or have become sharing members from the waiting list.

    • MBIYC policy for I-LYA affiliated members has been set to allow 2 free days dockage per season and require payment for docks after that at the current State Marina rate for docks with electricity and $15 per day for non-powered docks.

    • Electrical and Generators paragraph was changed to clarify that each dock has a single 30A service provided and members must supply the appropriate equipment to use that service. Additionally, vessel generator operation is now prohibited between the hours of 11:00 PM and 7:00 AM.

7/5/03 MBIYC - The Board of Directors this weekend enacted a mandatory $15 per day/night use fee for docks with electricity, effective 7/7/03. This was enacted to cover expenses that have increased dramatically this year due to changes in our lease with the State of Ohio. The fee is required for the use of any dock with electricity available, regardless if overnight or not. The fee covers dockage through the following morning at 10:00AM. "C" and "N" dock are both still available for free without electric.

The fee does not apply to seasonal dock holders unless dock holders who are sharing members of the same dock are present at the same time. In this case, the fee does not apply to one of the dock holders.

A detailed explanation of the issues at hand will be presented in the next Club newsletter.

Thank you for your understanding of the need to keep the Club’s finances in good order by enacting this fee.
