U.S. Power Squadrons®
and U.S Coast Guard Auxiliary work hand-in-hand to provide this service to as
many boat owners as possible each year.
Certified
Vessel Examiners from the USPS will be here to verify the presence and operable
condition of certain safety equipment required by state and federal regulations.
Boats
that meet safety requirements will be awarded the
2011 VSC sticker
to display on their vessel. Busy
U.S. Coast Guard patrols save time and effort by looking for VSC stickers while
doing routine safety stops. If they
spot one on your boat, they'll know you are very likely to be in compliance with
the regulations they enforce, and may look elsewhere.
USPS®
and USCGAux Vessel Examiners are volunteers and do not have law enforcement
authority, nor do they report any boat safety defects to the Coast Guard or
other organizations. The Vessel
Safety Check program is offered as a service to the boating public to make our
waters safer for us all.
In
addition to Vessel Safety Checks, both organizations also provide Boating Safety
Courses that meet or exceed NASBLA standards. Contact
a Flotilla or Squadron near you today.
